To help combat the negative portrayal of women in the media, movies should depict more women of all shapes, ages, sizes, and ethnicities, women should not be shown as just sex objects or submissive creatures, women should be portrayed as positive role models, women shouldn't be seen as the subordinate, lesser sex.
Women study centers and researches in
women's studies, should make a strong effort to help guide the images of women
in the media, a national media policy should be formulated to help provide
media norms for how women should be portrayed.
Also, we can stop airbrushing models. Arizona
Democratic state representative, Katie Hobbs, is hoping to tackle the issue of
airbrushing by requiring advertisers have a disclaimer on any retouched adds
that say: “Postproduction techniques were made to alter the appearance in
this advertisement. When using this product, similar results may not be
achieved.”
